Toshiba America Business Solutions’ technology initiative is enabling students, teachers and administrators at King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine & Science in Los Angeles to print from anywhere on campus using a mobile device. King/Drew Magnet High School is the first school in the Los Angeles Unified School District – the second-largest public school district in the United States – to implement such a program.
The magnet high school’s 1,700 students as well as 120 teachers and administrators print lesson plans, study guides, tests and other educational materials from their laptops and mobile devices to Toshiba’s award-winning e-STUDIO™ multifunction printers. King/Drew Magnet High School’s students are primarily printing to Toshiba’s print fleet using their school-issued Chromebooks.
“The one-to-one Chromebooks and Toshiba printing stations have revolutionized our school culture,” said King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine & Science Assistant Principal, Heather Karuza Ph.D. “It’s like a college campus! There is a new level of accountability and freedom when students can print, scan, and make copies on their own. Everyone loves this new printing system.”
Beyond the convenience of allowing King/Drew Magnet High School students and staff to print from their mobile devices, Toshiba’s technology initiative is producing substantial ecological and security benefits. Requiring students and staff to enter personal access codes virtually eliminates abandoned prints and unauthorized access to printed materials.
“Since education is one of Toshiba’s primary markets, implementing the mobile print program at King/Drew Magnet High School has been a rewarding experience for our team,” said Bill Melo, Toshiba America Business Solutions chief marketing executive. “We’re very much looking forward to continuing to provide the school’s students and staff with the necessary technology and support to help foster the best educational experience possible.”
Last December, Toshiba renewed its existing agreement with Los Angeles Unified School District, which enrolls more than 640,000 students at over 900 schools including King/Drew Magnet High School.
