Toshiba America Business Solutions today commemorates its 35 years as a manufacturer and employer in Mitchell, S.D. by celebrating its staff and company contributions, while supporting the local community.

Toshiba employs nearly 100 people living in the greater Mitchell area and is the primary global supplier of color toner for the company’s industry-recognized e-STUDIO copiers. Producing more than 1,200 metric tons of toner annually, the Toshiba team focuses on premium levels of quality, environmental sustainability, and occupational health and safety standards within its 25-acre Mitchell facility.

This includes adhering to strict local, state and national regulatory mandates including current ISO Certifications (ISO 9001:2015 Quality, 14001:2015 Environmental, 45001:2018 and 45001:2019 Health and Safety).

“Toshiba is a dedicated, active and proud member of the Mitchell community,” says Toshiba America Business Solutions President and Chief Executive Officer Larry White. “We enjoy celebrating our employees’ work and personal accomplishments, while also supporting the community through employee-driven public projects that reflect Toshiba’s global focus on sustainability.”

Beyond honoring many of its employees with awards and other distinctions at the official celebration, Toshiba is marking the occasion by dedicating two eco-centric park benches to Corn Palace Director Doug Greenway and Mitchell Area Development Corporation and Chamber Chief Executive Officer Geri Beck. Plaques on the benches indicate they are constructed from eLumber which is made in part from the manufacturer’s recycled toner products.

In addition, Toshiba is set to dedicate a pergola covering its onsite pollinator parcel in honor of the company’s most recent president and chief executive officer, Scott Maccabe. The one-acre section of land comprises indigenous flowers and grasses attracting bee and butterfly pollinators. Toshiba employees across levels and departments took part in creating this project, which also serves as a biodiversity laboratory for local students.

Toshiba combines its local re-pollination efforts with the company’s continuous commitment to the environment as well as a more sustainable earth through its green manufacturing processes, toner and product recycling efforts and reforestation efforts. Since 2008, Toshiba has eliminated 1,451 metric tons of e-waste from entering landfills through its toner recycling efforts.

The scheduled 35th-anniversary celebration kicks off at 8 a.m. Central Daylight Time at the Granite Springs Lodge Event Center in nearby Alexandria.
